Hooked wins the Tramway Stakes at Royal Randwick
Hooked completed yet another start-to-finish performance to take out the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) on Saturday. Hooked trainer JohnThompson was celebrating an unexpected Tramway triumph when Hooked led throughout to score an impressive win on a day when the racing industry paid tribute to the late Bart Cummings.
Thompson was Cummings long-time Randwick stable foreman and perhaps there was a sense of destiny about Hooked’s win.
“It’s a massive thrill, there’s plenty of Bart in that horse I’ll tell you,’’ Thompson said. “Have a look at him, he’s got that Cummings glow, what more can I say.”
Ridden by Tye Angland, Hooked rounded onto the final straight still at the fore of the talent-rich field; locking in a fierce sprint battle with Sweynesse and Ecuador, but continued to find to post arguably a career-best result to date.
